Microsoft admits Patriot Act can access EU-based cloud data

You’ve probably heard that it doesn’t matter where your data is hosted when it is in the cloud. This article demonstrates that American hosting providers, regardless of where your data is stored with them, will not be able to say NO to the US government if it wants access to your data. It has become more important then ever to:

  1. choose your provider based on the privacy laws of the country in which it is based and
  2. make sure the provider has located the actual data within that country or another country that is acceptable to your requirements.
